About the BRACELET Study

The BRACELET Study has two main parts.  The first part is referred to as Phase 1 and involved a survey of mortality and paediatric and neonatal intensive care trials.  This part of the study is now complete.

The current part of the study, Phase 2, considers issues around bereavement subsequent to the enrolment of a baby into a neonatal intensive care trial.  From the first phase of the study we now know that approaching 20% of neonates who are enrolled into intensive care trials do not survive.  Little is known however about the views and experiences of those involved.

Phase 2 of the BRACELET Study involves interviews with bereaved parents, neonatologists and a range of trial team members.  The aim is to provide information to allow future trial practice and policy to be responsive to the opinions of these relevant parties.
